Anuppur, 17 May (Hindustan Reporter). The purpose of celebrating World Museum Day on 18th May is to preserve the ancient heritage and remains around us so that we and our future generations can know its glorious history and importance. The department is determined to preserve and promote the culture and heritage of the state. There are many such heritage sites even today in the entire district. If you want to know the history of any area, then you must visit the museum of that area. It reveals the historical period, sculpture, rulers and culture of the area. Keeping all these in mind, Tirthankar Mahavir Archaeological Museum was established in 1981. Its objective is to save the archaeological heritage of the district and show its importance.
In the museum of Inganrajvi Amarkantak of the district, the sculptures found in excavations from the ancient temples of Anuppur, Shahdol and Umaria districts from the third century to the thirteenth century, sculptures of Kalachuri dynasty, pottery, artwork made by craftsmen and archaeological remains, stones. Carpet stone tools are present. For research students, the museum itself is a living history where they can see it directly and study and collect information.
Anuppur is just 65 km from the district headquarters. In the Tribal Museum of Indira Gandhi National Tribal University, located at a distance of 1000 meters, special tribal heritages found in the district have been preserved such as costumes, jewellery, medicinal items, pottery made in the district. Utensils, items made from bamboo, bullock cart decoration items, equipment and tools used in agriculture, musical instruments, masks are included.
The ancient history of the entire division has been extremely glorious and rich. Many ancient temples, forts, ancient stepwells, sculptures and remains of ancient sculptures have been found during excavations in all three districts of the division. Even today research work is going on in many places. Many ancient remains and statues have been found including the ancient Kalchuri period temple group located in Amarkantak, Maa Narmada origin place and temple group, ancient Ganesh temple Dharharkalan, eleventh century Shiv Maruti temple Samatpur, Gaj temple, first century AD, for the conservation of which the district administration, Necessary steps are being taken in coordination with the State Archeology Department and the Archaeological Survey of India.
