Dehradun, 24 October (HS). An International Institute of Parliamentary Studies, Research and Training will be established in Bharadisain, Gairsain, the summer capital. Through this institute, Uttarakhand will not only become an educational center but will also establish an important democratic platform.

In this regard, Assembly Speaker Ritu Bhushan Khanduri said on Thursday that one of the main objectives of the institute will be to promote better democratic policy making through research. Through this, various aspects that contribute to the development of parliamentary democracy will be reviewed in depth. Will provide systematic study, research and training on various parliamentary processes, bodies and modes of democracy. Under this, members, members of the executive, government officials, civil service members, media, non-governmental organizations, students and common citizens will all be involved.

The Assembly Speaker informed that the institute will organize various types of training programs and workshops to make the participants aware about the parliamentary working system and procedures. In future, this institute will organize joint programs with parliamentary institutions of other countries. This will facilitate comparative exchange of curriculum, create a pool of trainers, and share global best practices. Also, with the establishment of this institute, sensitization programs will be organized to increase awareness about the democratic governance system and parliamentary processes. The Chairman said that the establishment of this institute will not only play an important role in the development of Gairsain area, but it will also strengthen the local economy. Through this, the wide potential of tourism can be highlighted. The institute will act as an effective catalyst towards development suited to the local geographical conditions.

In fact, former President Pranab Mukherjee, during his visit to Uttarakhand on May 18, 2015, had suggested that there was a need to set up an international center for parliamentary studies and training. In the year 2022, Ritu Khanduri Bhushan, after becoming the Speaker of the Assembly, took the proposal seriously after “Research Institute”. He established coordination between the state and central governments through correspondence and meetings. Due to which now the path to establishment of this important institute has become possible. He has also set a target to start the institute from this financial year itself. It is noteworthy that this institute will provide a new direction for democracy, which will improve the quality of parliamentary processes not only locally but also at the international level. This will help in enhancing the efficiency of democratic institutions, which will ultimately be an important step towards a strong democracy.
