Among those arrested, 13 are from Bangladesh, 4 from Myanmar, 3 from Nepal and 1 from Afghanistan. All the people entered India illegally. The accused planned international trips using Indian documents.
Fake passport busted
In the national capital Delhi, police have busted the international fake passport racket and arrested 42 people. Of those arrested, 13 were Bangladeshi nationals, Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI) Usha Ranganani said, adding that 23 of those arrested were working as agents, while others were traveling as passengers. Ranganani said that this racket mostly involves foreign nationals from neighboring countries, who take advantage of India’s border problems to enter India and obtain Indian passports on the basis of forged documents.
The police conducted a thorough investigation
Among the arrested foreign nationals, 13 are from Bangladesh, 4 from Myanmar, 3 from Nepal and 1 from Afghanistan. All had entered India illegally and had planned international travel using Indian documents. Others arrested include 9 from West Bengal, 4 from Delhi, 3 from Maharashtra and 1 each from Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Punjab, Odisha and Rajasthan. The investigation revealed a racket of making fake documents for Bangladeshi citizens with the arrest of four agents and recovery of 21 fake passports. In July, another Bangladeshi national was caught traveling to Kuwait using a fake passport. An agent from Maharashtra was arrested in this case. Police said that further investigation is going on to bust this racket.
How were fake passports made?
The DCP said, ‘First, the racket used to make fake Indian documents like birth certificates for foreign nationals, these documents were used to make other fake documents from which Indian passports were made. This process was carried out through a network spread across several states like West Bengal, Maharashtra and Delhi. In March, a Bangladeshi national was caught with a fake Indian passport while returning from the UAE.
