Pakistan recently faced another international humiliation when seven countries expelled a total of 258 Pakistanis from their country. These include big countries like Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates (UAE) and China. A spokesperson for the Immigration Department at Karachi’s Jinnah International Airport said only 14 of these expelled people had valid Pakistani passports, while the remaining 244 were sent back on emergency travel documents.
Saudi Arabia’s tough stance on beggars
According to the immigration spokesperson, 16 deportees who arrived at Karachi Airport were arrested, one of whom was found to be of doubtful identity.
- 9 persons returning from Saudi Arabia were found to be professional beggars.
- Of these, two people were deported after serving their sentence for performing Hajj without permission.
- Many others were sent back for working illegally without a sponsor.
- 4 persons were expelled due to their involvement in drug related matters.
These countries also expelled
Apart from Saudi Arabia and UAE, Pakistanis were also expelled from China, Qatar, Indonesia, Cyprus, and Nigeria.
Passengers stopped at Karachi airport
In the last 24 hours, the immigration cell of FIA (Federal Investigation Agency) stopped 35 passengers from traveling at Karachi Airport.
- Many of these were Umrah visa holders traveling to Saudi Arabia, who did not have hotel bookings and sufficient funds.
- Some travelers were stopped for lack of correct work visa documents.
Damage to Pakistan’s international image
These expulsions have further weakened Pakistan’s international credibility. The spokesperson said that the incidents of deportation of Pakistani citizens have increased rapidly in recent months. Many Muslim countries are now adopting a strict attitude towards Pakistani beggars and people involved in illegal activities.
warning to travelers
Pakistani authorities have advised citizens to travel abroad with full preparation and valid documents. He warned that if they did not have the required documents, they would not only have to face trouble in different countries but could also face legal action on their return.
