International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking observed

Jammu, June 26 (HS). Amid zeal and enthusiasm, the District Administration Rajouri celebrated International Day against Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking under the theme 'The Evidence is Clear: Invest in Prevention'. During the event, several speakers shared their views on drug abuse and illicit trafficking. They highlighted the need for greater awareness and education as well as the importance of taking concrete steps to prevent drug abuse and trafficking. The speakers also stressed the need for community participation and support in fighting drug abuse and trafficking.

Deputy Commissioner Om Prakash Bhagat, the chief guest of the programme, emphasised the need for collective action to tackle the menace of drug abuse and illicit trafficking. He highlighted the fact that drug addiction is a complex issue that affects not only the individual but also their families and communities.

The Deputy Commissioner said that drug abuse is a serious public health problem that requires a comprehensive approach involving education, prevention, treatment and law enforcement. He spoke about the importance of awareness and education in preventing drug abuse and trafficking.

He stressed the need for all stakeholders to work together to provide the youth with the knowledge and skills to make healthy choices and avoid drug addiction. He also said that the district administration is committed to providing educational and treatment resources to those affected by drug abuse and will continue to work towards a drug-free society.

Addressing the programme, Additional District Development Commissioner Dr Raj Kumar Thapa stressed the importance of creating a safe environment for all members of the community, especially the youth. He called upon parents, teachers and community leaders to play an active role in preventing drug abuse and trafficking and urged them to educate the youth about the dangers of drug abuse.

As part of the celebrations, a cricket match was organized by the Social Welfare Department in collaboration with Youth Services & Sports Department at Sports Stadium Kheoda and it was inaugurated by the Deputy Commissioner. DSWO Abdul Rahim and DYSSO Rajouri were also present on the occasion among others.

The ceremony also included the launch of a signature campaign aimed at mobilizing public support for the issue. The campaign aims to raise awareness about the dangers of drug abuse and illicit trafficking and encourage people to take a pledge to remain drug-free and support the fight against drug abuse and trafficking. The Nasha Mukti Pledge was also taken by all the participants on the occasion. Besides, a vehicle was flagged off to spread awareness about the Nasha Mukti Abhiyan to educate people about the harmful effects of drug abuse.

The District Administration Rajouri is committed to work towards a drug-free society and will continue to organize similar events in the future to maintain this momentum and create a safer and more prosperous community for all.
