Lok Sabha Elections 2024: The politics of Etawah has seen many colors in the years after independence. Being the home district of socialist leader Mulayam Singh Yadav, his influence was so much that he defeated his own candidate in the elections to defeat BSP founder Kanshi Ram.

Mulayam Kanshi Ram's alliance was formed and the game was ruined.

Ram Singh Shakya was contesting elections from Samajwadi Janata Party. Mulayam Kanshi Ram's alliance was formed three days before the elections. Mulayam Singh had already issued an appeal in support of Kanshi Ram for sending him to the Lok Sabha. According to Kanshiram's election agent Khadim Abbas, Kashiram contested the elections from BSP and won by 1.45 lakh votes. BJP's Lal Singh Verma stood second with around 81 thousand votes and Samajwadi Party's Ram Singh Shakya stood third.

This is how Mulayam Singh Yadav formed the government in Uttar Pradesh in 1993.

This election brought Mulayam Singh and Kanshi Ram together and Kanshi Ram advised Mulayam Singh Yadav to form a new party. Mulayam Singh Yadav formed the new Samajwadi Party in 1992 and formed the government in Uttar Pradesh in 1993. Since independence in 1952, elections have been held for Etawah Lok Sabha seat 17 times. Congress had won this seat four times but has not been able to win this seat for the last three and a half decades. Only Samajwadi Party could score a hat-trick of victory on this seat. The interesting thing about this meeting is that in the elections of 1957, when Congress was dominant, Commander Arjun Singh Bhadauria had won the election as an independent.
