Initiative: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy available at BHU Trauma Center, first facility in Eastern UP

Varanasi, 06 May (HS). State-of-the-art Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT) facility is available for general patients at Trauma Centre, IMS, BHU. This therapy is an important achievement for the hospital. The unique innovative therapy is designed to redefine treatment protocols, especially in the area of ​​trauma and wound care. The first such therapy facility in eastern Uttar Pradesh is in BHU. HBOT administers pure oxygen within a pressurized chamber, enabling patients to breathe oxygen at levels higher than atmospheric pressure.

Thermal burns, carbon monoxide poisoning, conditions including diabetes, non-healing ulcers, refractory osteomyelitis, necrotizing soft tissue infections, damaged skin grafts and flaps, sudden sensorineural hearing loss, fatal otitis externa, radiation induced mandibular osteonecrosis and soft tissue necrosis, Contraindications to HBO therapy are untreated pneumothorax, cisplatin therapy and disulfiram therapy. Relative contraindications include obstructive lung disease, asymptomatic pulmonary blebs or bulla on chest radiograph, history of spontaneous pneumothorax, upper respiratory or sinus infection, recent ear or thoracic Surgery, uncontrolled fever, claustrophobia, seizure disorders, pregnancy, and pacemaker devices, the therapeutic approach has demonstrated extraordinary effectiveness in accelerating many types of healing processes. BHU Trauma Center embodies the commitment to provide superior care to individuals suffering from traumatic injuries. Professor in-charge of Trauma Center, Prof. Saurabh Singh said that the Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy facility is an important initiative. This is an important moment in efforts to raise health care standards within the community. He explained that HBOT is very helpful in facilitating faster healing and reducing risks, thereby increasing the chances of reducing complications and ultimately increasing positive outcomes.

He informed that a fully mechanized laundry of international standards has also been started in the Trauma Centre. At the time of inauguration of HBOT facility in the centre, Prof. V.K. Shukla (Former Rector, BHU), Prof. S. Pradhan (Director, Mahamana Pandit Madan Mohan Malviya Cancer Centre) and Homi Bhabha Cancer Hospital (Tata Mem. St., Mumbai), Dr. Gagandeep Bhanot, Consultant HBCH etc. were also present.
