Informal and surprise visit of Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren

When the country’s big leaders suddenly come among the common people, away from the glare of political corridors and VVIP tours, then that sight is really worth seeing. A similar fascinating and shocking incident was seen in Jharkhand, when the Chief Minister of the state Hemant Soren and his wife co-MLA Kalpana Soren suddenly bypassed all their administrative security and protocol restrictions and reached a small town by road. This surprise visit of the Chief Minister was not only shocking for the local administration but also became a memorable moment for the general public. The CM’s sudden landing on the ground while taking stock of the roads like a common man has become a topic of discussion everywhere.

According to the information received, Chief Minister Hemant Soren was returning from his native village Nemra. During this period, he did not have any pre-determined or official election programme. He was traveling completely like an ordinary traveler and a surveyor along the way. During the journey, he first took stock with his own eyes of the quality and progress of the Kasmar-Barlanga road under construction in the area falling under Bokaro district. After assessing the road conditions, as soon as his convoy reached near the main Tinkoniya Chowk of Kasmar, the atmosphere there suddenly changed completely and the Chief Minister stopped his car.

At that time, Kunal Jaiswal’s small tea-pakoda shop located at Tinkoniya Chowk in Kasmar was bustling with activity like any other day. No one had even dreamed that the Chief Minister and popular leaders of the state would suddenly stand at the doorstep of his small shop. As soon as CM Hemant Soren and Kalpana Soren reached inside the shop, the shop operators and customers present there were left in tears. Without any fanfare, both the leaders enjoyed hot pakodas sitting on stools like common citizens. Not only this, he also fed pakodas with his own hands to the local villagers and children present there and inquired about their well-being with great intimacy.

Seeing the Chief Minister and MLA Kalpana Soren sitting in such a casual manner at the tea and pakoda shop, a huge crowd of nearby shopkeepers and passers-by gathered. There was a competition among the people to take selfie with the head of their state and capture this moment in the mobile camera. The Chief Minister also did not disappoint anyone and interacted with everyone with great warmth. Local villagers said that before this they had never seen a big politician suddenly coming to an ordinary shop like this without any prior notice and enjoying tea and pakodas. It was this spontaneity that won the hearts of everyone present there.

After spending some time in Kasmar market and interacting with the local people, the Chief Minister’s convoy moved ahead. On the way back, he also visited the very beautiful Sewati Valley and stopped there to closely observe the geographical condition of the area. As soon as the news of this sudden visit was received, Bokaro Deputy Commissioner (DC) Ajay Nath Jha and many senior administrative officials also immediately reached the spot. During the inspection of the valley, the Chief Minister held important discussions with the officials on promoting tourism potential in this area and making the roadways more accessible.

In politics, often the visits of leaders take place under the shadow of heavy Lashkar and police security, where the common people are not able to express their problems openly. In such a situation, Chief Minister Hemant Soren’s visit to Kasmar and ‘discussing pakodas’ while sitting at a roadside mango shop is proof that the ground reality can be accurately estimated only through direct communication among the public. This short meeting and informal visit proved how a public leader can remain connected to his culture and land. Now this incident has become the biggest and most pleasant topic of discussion in Bokaro and the entire surrounding area, and people are praising this simplicity a lot.
