Inflation: Retail inflation hit a nine-month high of 5.49 per cent in September, down from a low of 4 per cent in the previous two months. The September consumer price index rose to 5.49 percent from 3.65 percent in August.

According to the information released by the government, there has been a strong increase in food inflation in the month of September. In August it has increased from 5.66 percent to 9.24 percent. Rural and urban inflation has also increased significantly.

On a monthly basis, rural inflation increased from 4.16 percent to 5.87 percent. The urban inflation rate has reached 5.05 percent in the month of September. Which was more than 3.14 percent in the month of August.

Vegetable inflation has the biggest impact
Talking about the inflation of vegetables, it has increased from 10.71 percent to 35.99 percent on a monthly basis. However, the price of pulses has declined in the month of September. In August, the inflation rate of pulses fell from 13.60 percent to 9.81 percent.

Apart from this, the inflation rate of fuel i.e. electricity has increased from -5.31 percent to -1.39 percent. While housing inflation rose to 2.78 per cent from 2.66 per cent, clothing and footwear inflation eased to 2.71 per cent and core inflation rose to 3.5 per cent from 3.4 per cent in September.

High inflation in less developed states
According to government data, retail inflation rate in less developed states is higher than the national average. Bihar's retail inflation rate was the highest at 7.5 percent while Delhi's retail inflation rate was 3.67 percent. In September, retail inflation was 6.74 percent in Uttar Pradesh, 7.36 percent in Chhattisgarh, 6.20 percent in Himachal Pradesh, 5.94 percent in Madhya Pradesh and 6.56 percent in Odisha.
