Inflation: Important report comes with veg-nonveg thali, know in detail | News India

The cost of making both vegetarian and non-vegetarian thali at home has seen a significant reduction in August-2024. This has been revealed in Crisil Market Intelligence and Analytics Research. The report states that this was mainly due to the falling prices of staple foods like tomatoes and boiler. According to the data, the average cost of a vegetarian thali made at home has come down by eight percent year-on-year, while the non-vegetarian thali has seen a reduction of 12 percent year-on-year.

Tomato prices fall

According to the information available, this reduction reflects the reduction in the prices of several important components. Tomatoes account for about 14 per cent of the cost of a vegetarian thali. The price has declined by 51 per cent year on year. Which has come down from Rs 102 per kg in August-2023 to Rs 50 per kg in August-2024. The price of a 14.2 kg LPG cylinder in Delhi has come down by 27 per cent compared to last year. Which has come down from Rs 1,103 to Rs 803.

Boiler chicken price reduced by 13%

Prices of vegetable oil, chilli and cumin seeds – which collectively account for less than 5% of the cost of a vegetarian thali – fell by 6%, 30% and 58%, respectively. The fall in non-veg thali prices was more pronounced due to a 13% drop in boiler chicken prices, which accounted for nearly 50% of non-veg thali prices. However, the impact was mitigated by a rise in retail prices of onion and potato, which rose by Rs 15 per kg and Rs 13 per kg, respectively, due to lower rabi income.

The price of both the thaalis has come down by 4 and 3 percent respectively

Both vegetarian and non-vegetarian thalis have seen a decline on a month-on-month basis. The price of which has come down by about four per cent and three per cent. This monthly decline was mainly due to a 23 per cent drop in tomato prices, which rose from Rs 66 per kg in July-2024 to Rs 50 per kg in August-2024. The 1-3 per cent decline in boiler prices for non-vegetarian thalis was supported by a drop in consumption in the month of Shravan. However, the price of potatoes has increased by two per cent and the price of onions by three per cent compared to the previous month.
