Indira's killer's son leading from Punjab's Faridkot seat, jailed leader leading from Kashmir's Baramulla seat

Lok Sabha Election Result 2024: Surprising results are coming out from two seats in Punjab and one seat in Kashmir. Independent candidates are leading in the trends from all three seats and all three candidates are controversial. Two of these candidates are Khalistan supporters.

Sarabjit Singh Khalsa leading from Faridkot

Out of the total 13 Lok Sabha seats in Punjab, Congress is leading on seven seats, AAP on three seats and independent candidates on two seats. In which Sarabjit Singh Khalsa, son of Indira Gandhi's assassin Beant Singh, is leading by about 59000 votes from Faridkot. Sarabjit Singh Khalsa was contesting the election from Faridkot seat along with three candidates. BJP gave ticket to Hansraj Singh from here. While Congress gave ticket to Mohammad Sadiq and Dehe Karamjit Anmol. All three are famous singers of Punjab.

Sarabjit Singh has contested elections earlier as well. He contested from Bathinda Lok Sabha seat in 2004 and from Fatehgarh Sahib seat in Punjab in 2014, but lost. Then in 2019, he contested on a Bahujan Samaj Party ticket, but lost again. Sarabjit's mother Bimal Kaur contested the Lok Sabha elections in 1989. She contested from Ropar seat and won. His grandfather also became an MP that year.

In 1984, Beant Singh (Sarabjit Singh's father) and Satwant Singh assassinated the then Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Both of them were Indira Gandhi's bodyguards. At that time Beant Singh was shot on the spot by another bodyguard, then Satwant Singh was sentenced to death.

Next is Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh

Khalistan supporter Amritpal Singh is leading from Punjab's Khadoor Sahib seat. He is ahead by about 1 lakh 50 thousand votes. Congress candidate Kulbir Singh Zira was contesting against him. Amritpal Singh, the head of the Waris Punjab De organization, was charged under the National Security Act 2023 and is lodged in Dibrugarh jail in Assam.

Engineer Rashid is contesting from Baramulla seat in Jammu and Kashmir. He is ahead by about 1 lakh 84 thousand votes. Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah is contesting against him. Rashid's sons Abrar Rashid and Asrar Rashid were campaigning for their father in Baramulla. In 2019, Rashid was charged under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA) for alleged terrorist financing. He is currently lodged in Tihar Jail in Delhi. Earlier, he had also unsuccessfully contested the 2019 parliamentary elections.
