On 15 August 1975, a coup took place in Bangladesh after the assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman. At that time, Sheikh Hasina, her husband Dr. Wazed and sister Rehana were staying with Bangladesh's ambassador Sanaul Haque in Brussels. That morning, Sanaul Haque's phone rang and it was Bangladesh's ambassador to Germany, Humayun Rashid Chowdhury, who told him that there had been a military coup in Bangladesh and Sheikh Mujibur had been killed.

He was given asylum in India

After which the question arose in front of Sheikh Hasina's husband Dr. Wajed and her sister Rehana that where should they go now. Then Humayun Rashid Chaudhary said that he would ask Indian Prime Minister Indira Gandhi to give shelter to Sheikh Hasina. This issue was discussed with Indira Gandhi and she agreed to give shelter to Sheikh Hasina. Emergency was imposed in India at that time.

Sheikh Hasina came to India on 24 August 1975

After which Sheikh Hasina and her family reached Delhi's Palam Airport on 24 August 1975 by Air India flight. She was received by a joint secretary of the cabinet and first she was taken to a safe house located at Row No. 56 of Ring Road. After this, on September 4, she met Prime Minister Indira Gandhi at the Prime Minister's residence.

Her husband Dr. Wajeed was awarded a fellowship in the Department of Atomic Energy

A few days after this visit, Sheikh Hasina was allotted a flat in Pandara Park C Block near India Gate and was told not to socialize with outsiders and to go out of the house less. After this, on 1 October 1975, Sheikh Hasina's husband Dr. Wazed was also given a fellowship in the Department of Atomic Energy.

Morarji Desai also helped Sheikh Hasina

Morarji Desai took over as Prime Minister after Indira Gandhi's defeat in the 1977 elections. According to reports, the then Prime Minister did not take much interest in Ro's campaigns, but according to 'Bangabadhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman', Morarji Desai met Sheikh Hasina and her husband in August 1977 when Sheikh Hasina sought help in calling her sister Rehana to Delhi. Morarji Desai had arranged for Rehana to come to Delhi. Rehana came to Delhi in the second week of December.

Gradually Sheikh Hasina's security was removed

According to the report, after Sheikh Hasina's help, Morarji Desai gradually started reducing her security. Slowly, she was pressured to leave India on her own. First her electricity consumption was stopped and then the vehicle facility given to her was also withdrawn. However, in 1980, Indira Gandhi once again came to power and after that Sheikh Hasina did not have to face any kind of trouble.

After staying in India for about 6 years, Sheikh Hasina was going to Dhaka with her daughter on 17 May 1981. About 15 lakh people welcomed her in Dhaka.
