The country's largest airline IndiGo has made a big announcement regarding the number of women in the company. IndiGo is moving forward with the goal of increasing the number of women pilots in its workforce to more than 1,000 by next year. The airline, which is expanding its fleet and network, currently has more than 800 women pilots. The airline announced this scheme as part of its efforts to promote diversity and inclusion in IndiGo.

30% increase in the number of women employees working in engineering

IndiGo Group Chief HR Sukhjeet S. Pasricha said that the country's airline company is promoting inclusiveness on a large scale by working in every department including engineering and flight staff. “We are promoting diversity and inclusion in every area of ​​work,” he said. “We take a 360-degree approach to this. “The total number of women in engineering has increased by about 30 percent.”

The number of women pilots will cross 1000 by August 2025

According to Sukhjit S. Pasricha, IndiGo has the highest number of women pilots, now over 800. The company overall has about 14 per cent women pilots, while the global average is seven to nine per cent women pilots. “We will cross 1,000 women pilots within a year (by August, 2025).”

This indigenous airline company, which operates more than 2,000 flights per day, currently has more than 5,000 pilots. To celebrate 77 years of the country's independence, IndiGo added 77 women pilots to its Airbus and ATR aircraft. As of March 31, 2024, the airline had 36,860 permanent employees, including 5,038 pilots and 9,363 cabin crew. This count includes 713 women pilots. It also has employees from the LGBTQ category.
