New Delhi, 03 December (HS). Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla today stressed that India’s tax system is one of the best in the world with transparency, rule of law and stability in tax policies. Because of these policies and laws, companies and people from all over the world want to invest in India. Om Birla said that India has become one of the favorite investment destinations for global investors due to its stable tax policy. Referring to tax reform measures, especially GST, Birla highlighted that these recent measures have simplified taxation and made it easier to do business in India. He said that GST has introduced the system of ‘one nation, one tax’ in our country and the whole world is eager to learn from it.
Birla said that Parliament and the government have made reforms in the taxation system from time to time, which is why today India’s tax system is considered to be the most transparent and reliable in the world. He said that the excellent work done by the IRS officers has strengthened India’s economy, due to which investors from all over the world want to invest in India.
Birla was addressing the inaugural session of the Appreciation Course in Parliamentary Procedures and Methodologies for Trainees (OTs) of 73 officers of IRS (Customs and Indirect Taxes) at the Parliament House Complex. The group included officers of 74th and 75th batch and 5 officer trainees of Royal Bhutan Customs. The course was organized by the Parliamentary Democracy Research and Training Institute (PRIDE), Lok Sabha Secretariat.
Birla told the young trainee officers that while the budget in 1947 was Rs 175 crore, today our budget has exceeded Rs 40 lakh crore. He said that this is the result of the efforts and contribution of officers like him. Emphasizing that our Constitution and shared democratic values have paved the way for India’s progress, Birla said our founding fathers have established a model of parliamentary democracy that has shown the world that people of different languages, religions and How to unite a diverse population of people across cultures. He also said that in the 75 years of the country’s democratic journey, the Parliament of India has not only amended the Constitution but also made welfare schemes for every section of the society.
On this occasion, the Preamble of the Constitution was read out to the officers under the leadership of Birla. Congratulating the trainee officers on getting selected in the IRS after hard work, Birla said that the officers should make their service their mission so that the nation moves towards a bright future. Birla emphasized that the responsibilities given to trainee officers should be discharged with transparency, honesty and efficiency. He expressed confidence that with their hard work, skills and technical knowledge they will not only increase the revenue of the country but will also establish moral values in the society.
Talking about the role and responsibilities of the trainee officers, Birla said that the Indian Revenue Service (IRS) plays a vital role in the prosperity of the nation. He said that the service is at the forefront in regularization of revenue, transparent collection of revenue and increasing revenue with honesty and integrity. He urged the trainee officers to ensure that no goods enter the country illegally; Because it harms the society and future generations. Birla expressed hope that this orientation course will improve the performance of officers and make their contribution to the nation more impactful.
