India's campaign in Paris Olympics 2024 is over. After Ritika Hooda's defeat in the quarter-finals of the 76 kg weight category in wrestling, the journey of Indian athletes in Paris Olympics came to an end. In this Olympics, the Indian team will return to India without a single gold medal.
However, it is important to note at this stage that Indian athletes have performed well in many events and set many records for the country. But it is also a matter of regret that India has come 71st in the medal table whereas India's rank was in the top 50 in the Tokyo Olympics. India has won one silver medal, five bronze medals in Paris. That is, India has won a total of six medals. Out of these medals, three bronze medals have come in shooting while one bronze medal each has come in wrestling and hockey. Neeraj Chopra, who won the gold medal in javelin throw in the last Olympics, has won the silver medal in Paris. Manu Bhaker and Swapnil Kushale have won the bronze medal in the individual event of shooting. Manu Bhaker and Sarabjot Singh's pair won the bronze medal in mixed doubles in shooting. Aman Sehrawat won the bronze medal in wrestling.
India retained bronze medal in hockey
Talking about hockey, the Indian team won a bronze medal in this Olympics as well. However, there is still hope of a medal from Vinesh Phogat in wrestling. Vinesh's case is currently in CAS. The decision will come on August 13 whether she will get a medal or not. If we compare India's performance in the Paris Olympics with the Tokyo Olympics, then India's performance was better. In 2020, India won one gold, two silver and four bronze medals and also ranked 48th in the medal tally.
