India has fully supported the Philippines in the ongoing dispute between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea.
Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar, who visited the Philippines, said that in view of the changes taking place at the global level, India and the Philippines have decided to increase cooperation with each other in the defense sector.
Jaishankar also discussed the confrontation between China and the Philippines in the South China Sea with the Foreign Minister of the Philippines and in the press conference held thereafter, Jaishankar indirectly advised China to follow international norms. Jaishankar also met Philippine President Bonabong Marcos and conveyed a message to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
It is also an interesting coincidence that just after Jaishankar's visit, an Indian Coast Guard ship has arrived in the Philippines capital. Which shows that India is strengthening its relations with the Philippines.
China claims Ayungin Shoal, an island in the South China Sea, and ships sent by the Philippines for supplies to the island are intercepted or damaged by Chinese navy or coast guard vessels. The island claimed by China is 2000 km from the Chinese coast and only 200 km from the Philippines.
There is a long standing dispute between the two countries regarding its ownership. Just as China is supporting Pakistan in the crisis between India and Pakistan, in the same way India has also started supporting the Philippines against China and has started responding to China in its own language. .
As a result, Jaishankar announced his support for the Philippines by challenging China to follow international rules.
