India's first 'Betala' free eye drop approved, cost only Rs 350 | News India

Presvu Eye Drops: People with weak eyesight have difficulty reading. It becomes impossible for them to read without wearing glasses. A drug called 'Presbyopia', which specifically treats this problem in old age, has recently been approved for sale in India. Let's know about this drug.

What is presbyopia?

Presbyopia is an age-related condition in which it becomes difficult for a person to see objects up close. This condition usually starts developing in the mid-40s. As the lens of the eye hardens with age, its flexibility decreases, making it difficult to focus on nearby objects. This condition is called 'presbyopia'.

This is the latest medicine for presbyopia

After two years of deliberation, India's drug regulatory agency has recently approved a drug that exempts one from the need for glasses. It is an eye drop called 'Presvu' developed by Mumbai-based Antode Pharmaceuticals.

This is how this medicine works

'Presvu' is made using pilocarpine. Pilocarpine stimulates the nervous system and improves its efficiency. 'Presvu' treats presbyopia by reducing the size of the eyeball, thereby increasing the ability to see near objects.

This is how to use it

Since it is a non-surgical solution, it is easy to use. Only one drop of 'Prisavu' has to be put in the eye at a time. It starts working within 15 minutes. Its effect lasts for six hours. If the second drop is given within three to six hours after the first drop, the effect of the medicine lasts longer.

first time in india

This is the first drug of its kind in India. Such drugs have been available abroad for a long time. 'Presvu' manufactured in India is already exported to more than 60 countries.

A special Indian eye medicine

The medicines available abroad for presbyopia are not that effective for Indian eyes, so 'Presvu' has been specially tested on Indian eyes. There is a difference between Indian eyes and Caucasian eyes (eyes of fair-skinned people of Europe-America), so 'Presvu' has been made keeping this in mind. After conducting clinical trials on more than 250 people at ten different places across India, the medicine has been approved with positive results.

Get rid of these options

For people suffering from presbyopia, till now the only options available to get rid of this condition were glasses, contact lenses or surgery. Now 'Presvu' has emerged as a medicine that eliminates all these options.

'Pressvu' will be available at this price

'Presvu' will be available in all pharmacies across the country from the first week of October 2024. It will be priced at Rs 350 per bottle. This drug is used to treat mild to moderate presbyopia in people over the age of 40. This drug can be purchased only if it is prescribed by a doctor. This eye medicine can prove to be a welcome cure for millions of Indians suffering from presbyopia.
