India women's badminton team sealed its historic first medal at the Badminton Asia Team Championships (BATC) by defeating Hong Kong 3-0 in the quarter-finals. Two-time Olympic medalists PV Sindhu, Asmita Chaliha and the doubles pair of Ashwini Ponnappa and Tanisha Krasto led India to victory by defeating top-ranked China. Sindhu, who returned to the court after a long break due to injury, defeated lower-ranked Losin Yan Happy by the scores of 21-7, 16-21, 21-12. The women's doubles pair of Tanisha and Ashwini then defeated the 18th seeded pair of Yung Nga Ting and Yung Pui Lam 21-10, 21-14 in 35 minutes, giving India a 2-0 lead. Asmita secured at least a bronze medal for India with a 21-12, 21-13 win over Yung Sum Yee.
