New York, September 28 (HS). India has given a befitting reply to Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif raising the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in the general debate of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly. India used its 'right of reply' on Friday to react to this. Bhavika Mangalanandan, First Secretary in the Permanent Mission of India to the United Nations, responded under India's right of reply.

“This General Assembly regrettably witnessed a farcical incident this morning,” he said. A military-run country, known throughout the world for terrorism, drug trade and international crime, had the audacity to attack the world's largest democracy. The world knows that Pakistan has long been using cross-border terrorism as a weapon against its neighbours.”

Indian diplomat Bhavika Mangalanandan, in response, cited the 2001 attack on the Indian Parliament by Pakistan-based terrorist groups and the 26/11 Mumbai terror attacks. He said, “He has attacked our Parliament, our financial capital Mumbai, markets and pilgrimage places. This list is long. It is complete hypocrisy for such a country to speak anywhere about violence.”

Pakistan Prime Minister Sharif had said that to ensure lasting peace, India will have to restore Article 370 and start talks for a peaceful resolution of the Jammu and Kashmir issue. On this, Bhavika Mangalanandan said that India has rejected her country's proposal for mutual “strategic arrangement”. India has said that there can be no compromise of any kind with terrorism. Rather, Pakistan should know that cross-border terrorism against India will inevitably have consequences.

Mangalanandan reminded the global community that this is the same country that harbored al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden for a long time. Pakistan has a hand in many terrorist incidents across the world. The Indian diplomat said, it should not surprise anyone that its (Pakistan's) Prime Minister would speak like this in this prestigious forum. Despite this, we must make it clear how unacceptable his words are to all of us. We know that Pakistan would like to counter the truth with more lies. Lying again and again won't change anything. India's stand is clear. There is no need to repeat it. It is strange for a country with a history of election rigging to talk about political options in a democracy.

He said, the truth is that Pakistan has its eyes on our region. It has consistently used terrorism to disrupt elections in Jammu and Kashmir, an inalienable and integral part of India. This is a country that committed genocide in 1971. Even now it continues to perpetrate atrocities on minorities. Now he dares to speak about intolerance and fear. This is ridiculous. The world knows the reality of Pakistan. Following this, a Pakistani diplomat responded to Mangalanandan's statement under the right of reply. He described India's claim as baseless and misleading. It is noteworthy that the leaders of Pakistan sing the praises of Jammu and Kashmir every year in the United Nations General Assembly.

Sharif had said…

Pakistan Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif, in his address, along with raising the issue of Jammu and Kashmir, also made reference to Article 370 and terrorist Burhan Wani of terrorist organization Hizbul Mujahideen. He had said that like the people of Palestine, the people of Jammu and Kashmir have also struggled for a century for their freedom and right to self-determination. India must withdraw the unilateral and illegal steps taken in August 2019. Negotiations will have to be initiated for a peaceful resolution of the issue of Jammu and Kashmir in accordance with the UN security resolutions and the wishes of the Kashmiri people.

Turkey did not mention Kashmir

Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan did not mention Kashmir in his remarks at the UN General Assembly this year for the first time since the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019. In his nearly 35-minute address, he focused on the humanitarian situation in Gaza. Erdoğan's non-mention of Kashmir is being seen as a clear change in Turkey's stance. It is noteworthy that at present Turkey is trying to join the BRICS group of which India is a member. On this, Maleeha Lodhi, a former diplomat of Pakistan and the country's ambassador to the United Nations, wrote on X, “Erdoan did not mention Kashmir in the United Nations General Assembly for the first time. He mentioned Kashmir in 2019, 2020, 2021, 2022 and 2023.”
