The Indian women's team created history by winning the bronze medal in the Asian Table Tennis Championship played in Astana, Kazakhstan. India faced Japan in the semi-finals, in which India had to face defeat by the score of 1-3.
This is the first time since 1972 that the Indian women's team has won a medal in the Asian Table Tennis Championship. In the other semi-final, China defeated Hong Kong 3–0 and the Indian men's team also secured at least a bronze medal by defeating Kazakhstan by a score of 3–1.
In the opening singles match, Ayihika Mukherjee lost to Miwa Harimoto 2-3 (8-11, 11-9, 8-11, 13-11, 7-11). Manika Batra defeated Satsuki Odo 3-0 (11-6, 11-5, 11-8) to level the score at 1-1. However, Mimo Ito defeated Sutirtha Mukherjee 11-9, 11-4, 15-13 and Harimoto defeated Manika 3-1 (11-3, 6-11, 11-2, 11-3) to give Japan 3. Won by -1. The place in the final has been decided.
