Yecheon, May 25 (HS). The Indian trio of Jyothi Surekha Vennam, Preneet Kaur and Aditi Swami won their third consecutive Archery World Cup gold medal by defeating Turkey 232-226 in a one-sided compound women's team final of the Stage 2 event here on Saturday.
The world number one Indian compound women's team dominated Turkey's Hazal Burun, Ayse Bera Suzer and Begum Yuva from the very first end and maintained a good six-point lead to win the gold medal without losing a set.
Jyothi, Preneet and world champion Aditi together completed a hat-trick of World Cup gold medals.
They beat Italy to win gold in the World Cup Stage 1 opener in Shanghai last month. The trio also claimed gold at Stage 4 in Paris last year.
In the compound women's team final, the second-seeded Indians started with three Xs (arrows near the centre) and dropped one each in the next three arrows to beat their fifth-seeded rivals by a single point in the first round.
In the next round of six arrows, the Indians showed complete dominance, drilling five perfect 10s and a 9 with two Xs to extend their lead to four points at the halfway mark.
Turkey tried hard to score four 10s with an X in the final round to match India's score of 58. But it did not make much of a difference as the Indian trio was four points ahead by the fourth and final end. The Indian trio then shot another 58 in the end to seal their win.
Asian Games champion Jyoti, however, failed to add a second gold to her kitty as she along with Priyansh lost the opening round lead and lost to Olivia Dean and Sawyer Sullivan of the United States by two points (155-153) in the compound mixed team event to settle for a silver medal.
A third medal is also expected from the compound category in this edition of the World Cup, where Prathamesh Phuge is one win away from his first individual World Cup podium finish.
Fuge, who defeated 2021 world champion and world No. 6 Nico Wiener of Austria in the quarters, will compete against world No. 7 James Lutz for his first individual World Cup medal. Fuge was part of the gold-medal-winning men's team in Shanghai.
