Paris, 04 August (HS). The Indian hockey team has reached the semi-finals of the men's hockey event at the Paris Olympics 2024. In the quarter-final match played on Sunday, the Indian team defeated Great Britain 4-2 in a penalty shootout. After four quarters of play, the score of both the teams was tied at 1-1. After this, a penalty shootout was resorted to, in which the Indian team defeated Great Britain 4-2. In this way, the Indian men's hockey team has made it to the semi-finals of the Olympics for the second consecutive time. The Indian team has thus taken another step towards the medal. If India manages to win the semi-finals, it will at least secure a silver medal.
There was a fierce competition from both the teams in the match. In the first quarter, both the teams got penalty corners, but no one could convert it into a goal. No goal was scored in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Amit Rohidas of the Indian team got a red card. Rohidas' hockey stick hit the head of a Great Britain player and due to this Rohidas got a red card and he had to leave the field. Team captain Harmanpreet Singh gave the Indian team, playing with 10 players, a 1-0 lead by scoring a goal in the 22nd minute. However, after this, Britain's Lee Morton scored a goal in the 27th minute and equaled the score to 1-1. After half time, both the teams were tied at 1-1.
