The 18-member Indian women's hockey team led by Salima Tete has been announced for the Asian Champions Trophy to be played from November 11 to 20 at the newly constructed Rajgir Hockey Stadium in Bihar. Navneet Kaur will be the vice-captain of the team. Last year, India won the title in the championship held in Ranchi, but since then the team's performance is continuously deteriorating.
In this tournament, India will have to face the challenge of five other countries including current Olympic silver medalist China, Japan, Korea, Malaysia and Thailand. India will start its campaign against Malaysia on 11th. Regarding team selection and tournament preparation, Salima said that she is looking forward to leading the team in another big tournament. We will be going into the field as defending champions which will be an attraction. The aggression of Navneet Kaur, Sangeet Kumari, Deepika, Preeti Dubey and Beauty Dungdung will make the team successful.
