Prince Edward Island (PEI), Canada's smallest province, cut its immigration permits by 25 per cent a few days ago. As a result, Indian students fear being sent back. Indian students have been on a hunger strike for five days over this issue. Indian students say that the sudden change in the immigration policy of the Canadian province has put them in a precarious situation. Two Indian students have also spoken about this in the Parliament there.
He told the Parliament why your immigration policy is unfair. In Parliament, Rupinderpal Singh said that he has spent three times more on his education in Canada than Canadian students. Yet he has to face the problem of immigration. He spent extra on both his education in Ontario and taxation in Canada.
According to Canadian news portal True North, he said he should have been guaranteed his rights as a Canadian citizen.
Rupinderpal Singh said that my friends working here only paid $2500 for the same course of two semesters. In total I spent 30 thousand dollars on my tuition. Comparatively, a student born and raised in Canada paid about ten thousand dollars. So even though I spent twenty thousand dollars more, I am still in a worse condition. How fair is this?
Rupinder Singh and Jaswinder Singh were speaking in Parliament after pleading with the provincial government not to deport them after their work visas expired. Their speech comes at a time when Indian students are staging day and night protests in Prince Edward Island against a 25 per cent cut in immigration.
