UK for Higher Education: Although Indians are at the forefront in terms of getting student visas in Britain, the number of Indian students taking admission in British universities is gradually decreasing. Due to heavy restrictions on migration, Indian students are not preferring to go to Britain.
Indian students disillusioned with UK due to strict immigration rules
According to UK Home Office data, the number of Indian students coming to the UK for higher studies has declined by 23 per cent by June 2024. However, Indian students still top the number of graduate route visa holders.
The number of Indian students in Britain has decreased due to the new immigration rules implemented earlier this year. According to the new rules, the rules for bringing dependents to Britain have been tightened. By June 2024, 1,10,006 Indian students have been given sponsored study visas. Which is 32,687 less than last year.
The number of Indian students going to Britain has declined by 23 percent since last year
The number of foreign students coming to the UK from India and Nigeria increased from 2019 to 2023. However, after 2023, the number of students from India is expected to fall by 23 per cent and the number of students from Nigeria by 46 per cent.
Under the India-UK Young Professionals Scheme, 2234 Indian citizens have gone to Britain since February last year. This number is less than the maximum visa limit of 3000.
Indians constituted the largest number of foreign students in the year ending June 2024. The number of Indian students going to the UK through the graduate route was 67,529. Which is only 46 percent of the visas granted in this category.
