Washington: For some time now, there has been a threat to the safety of Indian students in America. Abdul Mohammed, an Indian student originally from Hyderabad, has gone missing. Mohammed enrolled at the University of Cleveland in Ohio last May.
The family of student Abdul has claimed that they have not spoken to their son since March 7. After his sudden disappearance the family received a ransom call. The extortionist demanded Rs 1 lakh from the family. The caller told them that their son had been kidnapped. Along with this he also threatened to sell his kidney.
Abdul's father, Mohammed Salim, was threatened by Cleveland-based drug dealers last week. The kidnappers demanded $1,200 i.e. about Rs 1 lakh for his release. After receiving extortion threats, Abdul's parents informed their relatives in the US and they lodged a police complaint.
