Indian stock markets fall amid US elections, Sensex down 240 points, Nifty below 24,000

Stock Market 5 November: Today there is presidential election in America. The Indian stock market opened with a decline today. Sensex is trading 240 points down at 78542 and Nifty is trading down 78 points at 23916.

Sensex and Nifty were also affected by weak global cues in the pre-open market. BSE Sensex was trading around 700 points.

Adani Ports, HDFC Bank, BEL, ITC, Power Grid, Bharti Airtel, Asian Paints, Shriram Finance and HDFC Life fell between 0.39 to 0.74 per cent. FMCG, Private Bank, Realty, Consumer Durables and Oil & Gas shares are also trading down by 0.01 to 0.24 per cent.

Shares of JSW Steel, Hindalco, Tata Steel, Bajaj Auto, Hero MotoCorp and Sun Pharma rose between 1.11 to 2.19 per cent. Growth is being seen in IT, media, metal, pharma, PSU bank and healthcare stocks. Indian Bank, Gland, Oil India, NMDC and Glenmark are trading with gains of 1.69 to 2.27 percent.
