Indian stock market closed flat on the first day of trading

In the Indian stock market today i.e. on July 29, on the first day of trading, the market closed with gains in the last minute. However, in the morning the market opened with all-time highs in Sensex and Nifty. Today, on the first trading day of the week, the Sensex made an all-time high of 81,908 and the Nifty made an all-time high of 24,999. However, after this the market saw a decline and the Sensex closed at 81,355 with a gain of 23 points.

Nifty closed at 24,836, up one point. Out of 30 Sensex stocks, 17 rose and 13 fell. Out of 50 Nifty stocks, 25 rose and 25 fell.

These sectoral stocks rose

Midcap stocks outperformed other stocks in the broader indices when the market closed today. The Nifty Midcap 100 index touched a new record high of 58,455.10. The index closed at 58,364.65 with a gain of 1.03 per cent. Apart from this, the Nifty Smallcap index also closed with a gain of 1 per cent. As for other sectoral indices, PSU Bank, Media and Realty indices rose by 2.25 per cent, while FMCG, IT and select financial services declined.

Global peers were mostly positive while investors await the outcome of the Federal Reserve, Bank of England (BOE) and Bank of Japan (BOJ) policy meetings this week.

Market cap has crossed Rs 460 lakh crore

Even though the Sensex and Nifty closed flat, the market value closed above Rs 460 lakh crore due to a strong rally in midcap stocks. The market cap of shares listed on the BSE closed at Rs 460.14 lakh crore.

Earlier the market was in a boom

Earlier on Friday, July 26, the stock market witnessed a boom. Nifty reached an all-time high of 24,861 and closed at 24,834, up 428 points. At the same time, the Sensex closed at 81,332 with a gain of 1292 points. Out of the 30 Sensex stocks, 27 rose and 3 fell. Out of the 50 Nifty stocks, 47 rose and 3 fell.
