Indian squad announced, Shubman Gill will take command, KL Rahul becomes vice-captain, Pant-Hardik out and entry of two new faces.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has officially announced the Indian limited overs squad for the upcoming West Indies series. This time the selection committee headed by Ajit Agarkar has selected a very balanced and strong team for the upcoming three ODI matches and five T20 match series. There is a lot of excitement among the cricket lovers that the two great batsmen of world cricket, Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli will be seen showing the prowess of their bat on the field in this exciting ODI series starting from 27th September in Thiruvananthapuram. This time the selection committee has made many important strategic changes in the team composition, which will strengthen the bench strength and future plans of the Indian cricket team in the times to come.

Shubman Gill became the captain and KL Rahul got the new vice-captain of the ODI team.

Young and talented batsman Shubman Gill has once again been given the captaincy of the Indian team for the upcoming ODI series against West Indies. Under his leadership, the team will take the field so that it can register a spectacular victory in the series. Along with this, the selectors have appointed experienced wicketkeeper-batsman KL Rahul as the new vice-captain of the ODI team. This big change has been made due to Shreyas Iyer being busy with the Asian Games 2026, as Shreyas will be handling the huge responsibility of captaining the Indian T20 team at that time. Although Shreyas Iyer was usually the regular vice-captain of the ODI team, this time in his absence this responsibility has been given to KL Rahul. Apart from this, Ruturaj Gaikwad has also been included in the squad who will provide stability to the team with his excellent technique.

Rishabh Pant and Hardik Pandya are out, two new players got a big chance

This time in the selection, some big players have had to look out, due to which there is an atmosphere of surprise and discussion among the fans. Star wicketkeeper-batsman Rishabh Pant has once again been ignored in the limited overs format. There was a tough competition between Rishabh Pant and young Dhruv Jurel for the second wicketkeeper in the ODI format, in which Dhruv Jurel was completely successful in winning the match and confirmed his place in the squad. However, KL Rahul will remain in the main role of first choice wicketkeeper in the team. Apart from this, star all-rounder Hardik Pandya has also been left out of the squad, as he has not played any competitive match since getting injured during IPL 2026 and he is focusing on regaining his full fitness. On the other hand, the selectors have surprised everyone by including two new players in the team on the basis of domestic cricket and recent excellent performances. Fast bowler Aaqib Nabi and talented player Naman Dheer have been included in the national ODI squad for the first time, which will provide a golden opportunity to the young players to showcase their talent. Aaqib Nabi, who hails from Jammu and Kashmir, was earlier selected in the Test team for the Sri Lanka tour, although he did not get a chance to debut during that time.

Ravindra Jadeja’s brilliant comeback and Kuldeep-Mayank’s comeback in T20.

Indian cricket team’s experienced and veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja has once again made a comeback in the ODI team. Jadeja played his last ODI for India in January 2026 and now he is once again ready to strengthen the team with his accurate bowling and useful batting. Along with him, Yashasvi Jaiswal has also returned to the team, who has the ability to score runs at a fast pace in the beginning of the innings. On the other hand, if we talk about T20 format, Shreyas Iyer has been given the captaincy of the T20 team for this exciting five-match series starting from October 6 in Lucknow. Young aggressive batsman Vaibhav Suryavanshi, experienced Sanju Samson and explosive batsman Tilak Verma have also been included in this T20 squad. To give more edge to the bowling line-up, Chinaman spinner Kuldeep Yadav and speed merchant Mayank Yadav have made a great comeback in the T20 team. While Kuldeep played his last T20 match in February 2026, Mayank Yadav was dropped from the T20 series against Afghanistan some time ago, but now he has made a place in the team again on the basis of his pace. Along with this, Nitish Kumar Reddy also remains an important part of both ODI and T20 squads.
