Indian Railways: Indian Railways is improving its services day by day. Many new trains including Vande Bharat are being run and efforts are also being made to provide comfortable travel to the passengers. People traveling by train also carry heavy luggage with them. But do you know that you can carry luggage in the train only within the prescribed limit. For this, Railways has given information about how many kilos of luggage can be carried in which coach. If someone exceeds the prescribed limit, he may have to pay a fine.
According to railway rules, passengers can carry free luggage weighing up to 70 kg in AC First Class, while up to 50 kg in AC 2 Tier. Apart from this, you can carry luggage up to 40 kg for free in AC 3 tier or chair car. Talking about sleeper class, passengers can carry up to 40 kg weight with their ticket. In second class this limit is 35 kg.
According to Indian Railways, trunks, suitcases and boxes having external measurements of 100 cm x 60 cm x 25 cm (length x width x height) are allowed to be carried as luggage in passenger coaches. If the measurements of trunks, suitcases and boxes exceed the prescribed limits then such items should be booked and transported in brake van and not in the passenger compartment.
Additionally, the maximum size of trunk/suitcase that can be carried in AC-3 tire and AC chair car compartment should be 55 cm x 45 cm x 22.5 cm. At the same time, passengers are also prohibited from carrying many things in the train. This includes chemicals, firecrackers, gas cylinders, acids, grease, leather etc. If any passenger is found traveling with these prohibited items, strict action can be taken against him under Section 164.
