We are seeing that the number of rail accidents is increasing. Sometimes the train derails and sometimes there is a collision due to signal failure. Indian Railways is now making efforts to reduce rail accidents. Indian Railways is planning to develop a master clock system to accurately synchronize time with applications and systems in its network.
According to the information, there is a plan to display this prototype by Gandhi Jayanti this year. According to the report, uniform timing is required in all railway systems and applications because different timings make investigation after railway accidents difficult.
Railways will abolish the manual system
According to the information, official sources said that the railways will soon do away with its current manual system of setting time by the station master on the instructions of the section controller. The Railway Board has constituted a high-level committee to finalise the master clock system.
Why is a master clock system necessary?
Zonal railways across the country use different systems for timing in the current manual system. The application time is also different. The timing is not the same across the system. Now there is a need to bring uniformity in it as it is being said that this will help in rail operations as well as provide correct information after rail accidents.
Sourcing Time
Officials said that the time for the master clock system will be obtained through Navigation with Indian Constellation (NAVIC) or National Physical Laboratories (NPL). A high level team led by the Director of Telecommunications of the Railway Board will focus on the complexities of this master clock system. The help of regional officials will also be taken for this.
