New Delhi. For comfortable travel in the train, people make reservations well in advance. Some of these passengers are unable to travel and later cancel their tickets. Railways does not refund the full amount if the ticket is cancelled. That means, you get back less money than the amount for which reservation was made. Dilip Kumar, Executive Director, Information and Publicity, Railway Board, says that the payment for reservation includes reservation fee, superfast charge and GST apart from the train fare. On cancellation of ticket, Railways only refunds the train fare. The reservation fee and GST charged from you are non-refundable. Dilip Kumar says that reservation fee is taken from you in exchange for the facility, hence it is not refundable. Apart from this, superfast charge is also charged.
What is the superfast fee?
Indian Railways runs two types of trains, first is superfast and second is passenger and local trains. Passengers traveling long distances make reservations which are superfast, while passenger trains run for short distances and stop at all stations along the way. Therefore, superfast charge is not taken on reservation in these trains.
What is the reservation fee in which category?
Reservation charges vary according to class. Rs 15 is charged for Second Class, Rs 20 for Sleeper, Rs 40 for AC Chair Car, AC Economy and AC Third, Rs 50 for AC Second and Rs 60 for AC First and Executive Class. If you have made a reservation in First AC and cancel it, Rs 60 plus GST will not be refunded.
This fee is also charged in suburban trains
Apart from normal trains, if you make reservation in suburban and local trains, then you are charged reservation charge. In second class you have to pay Rs 15, in sleeper class you have to pay Rs 20 and in first class you have to pay Rs 50.
