Mumbai: Indian Navy warship INS Talwar seized 940 kg of contraband drugs in a heart-wrenching operation in the middle of the Arabian Sea under Operation Crimson Barracuda. According to officials in this regard, elite Marco commandos of the Indian Navy stopped a boat on April 13 and seized these narcotics from it.
As a member of the Combined Maritime Force (CMF), the Indian Navy was the first to conduct counter-narcotic operations. INS Talwar successfully conducted this operation as a member of the CMF in support of the Canada-led Combined Task Force (CTF) 150. The CMFA is a 42-nation naval partnership whose mission is to provide security and stability in the world's most vital 3.2 million square mile international maritime zone.
An Indian Navy spokesperson said Operation Crimson Barracuda, led by Indian Navy's Dahej INS Talwar, a joint task force in the Western Arabian Sea for maritime security operations, successfully intercepted the suspicious boat on April 13. The team of experts present on the ship and Marcos seized 940 tonnes of banned drugs. It was clarified that disposal of these medicines will be done as per the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP). The CTF-150 mission focuses on interdiction of weapons, drugs and other illicit goods in the Indian Ocean, Arabian Sea and the Gulf of Oman.
The contraband drugs seized by INS Talwar included 430 kg of methamphetamine, 416 kg of hashish and 71 kg of heroin.
