The Indian hockey team has started the Paris Olympics 2024 with a great victory. They made a great start to the Olympics by defeating New Zealand 2-1 in the Group B match. Mandeep Singh and Vivek Sagar Prasad scored goals for India. Along with this, Len Sam and Simon scored goals for New Zealand. India's next match will be against Argentina on 29 July.
New Zealand played brilliantly in the first quarter. New Zealand played aggressively and tried to score a goal in the fourth minute. However, goalkeeper Abhishek made a brilliant save. However, New Zealand got a penalty corner in the 8th minute. New Zealand took full advantage of it. Len Sam took the penalty corner and hit it on the goal post. Sam put New Zealand ahead 1-0 in the match. In the first quarter, Gurnat Singh had to leave the field for three minutes and got a green card.
As soon as the second quarter started, New Zealand suffered a big setback. New Zealand captain Nick Woods got a yellow card and had to leave the field for five minutes. In the 24th minute, India got a penalty corner. Captain Harmanpreet took the strike and Mandeep Singh scored a goal to give India a 1-1 draw. Although New Zealand took a referral against the goal, the umpire upheld the goal. The match was tied at 1-1 till the first half.
In the last quarter, India got a penalty corner in the 47th minute but could not score a goal. In the 53rd minute, New Zealand got a penalty corner and Simon scored a goal to bring the team on par. In the 58th minute, India got a penalty corner and captain Harmanpreet Singh won the penalty stroke and the captain scored a goal to put India ahead 3-2 and India registered a spectacular victory.
