Indian Legends beat Pakistan, win first World Championship of Legends trophy

WCL 2024 Final: The team of veteran players of Team India has created a record by winning the title of the first season of the World Championship of Legends. In the final match played at Edgbaston, Birmingham on July 13, the Indian champion team led by Yuvraj Singh defeated the Pakistani champion by 5 wickets. Pakistan captain Younis Khan won the toss and decided to bat first. Pakistan's team scored a good score of 156/6 in 20 overs.

India achieved the target in 19.1 overs

In reply, India achieved the target in 19.1 overs and registered an easy win by 5 wickets. Ambati Rayudu played a key role in India's victory by scoring a brilliant innings of 50 runs in just 30 balls. Chasing the target, India had a great start. Openers Robin Uthappa and Rayudu bravely faced the Pakistani bowlers in the powerplay. Rayudu gave a good start to the Indian innings by hitting a four and a six off Aamir Yamin in the very first over.

Rayudu takes command

Uthappa also continued to attack from the other end and hit two fours off Yamin in the next over. However, he failed to extend his innings and was dismissed in the same over. Suresh Raina, who came to bat at number three, opened his account by hitting a four. But on the second ball itself, Sohail was caught out straight by Tanvir, taking India's score to 38/2. After the initial two failures, Rayudu decided to play the role of the anchor. He shared a crucial partnership of 60 runs with Gurkeerat Singh Mann. Rayudu completed his half-century in just 29 balls and took India to a strong score of 98/2 after 11 overs.

Pakistan dropped many catches

Just when India seemed to have the match under their control, Pakistan came back with the wickets of Ambati Rayudu (50 off 30 balls) and Gurkeerat Singh Mann (34 off 33 balls) within 10 balls. Pakistan dropped a few catches towards the end of the innings which led to a crucial 42-run partnership between Yusuf Pathan and Yuvraj Singh.

Misbah retired hurt

Earlier, Pakistan got off to a poor start. Anureet Singh dismissed opener Sharjeel Khan (12 off 10 balls) in the second over when only 14 runs were scored. Sohab Maqsood also failed to convert the good start into a big innings and fell to Vinay Kumar after scoring 21(12). Kamran Akmal was on his way to a big score after scoring 24 runs but fell to Pawan Negi in the ninth over, taking Pakistan to 68/3 after 8.2 overs. Wickets kept falling from one end and at the other, Shoaib Malik played the role of a mastermind for his team. He kept the scoreboard ticking. However, Misbah-ul-Haq was hurt when he retired. Without Misbah, Pakistan struggled and could only manage 156 runs for the loss of 6 wickets in 20 overs. Sohail Tanvir, who scored 19 runs off 9 balls, saw a slight increase in the score.
