New Delhi, July 4 (HS). The Indian football team will participate in a tri-nation friendly tournament in Vietnam in October. The All India Football Federation (AIFF) made the announcement on Wednesday.
The AIFF said that the Indian team will face hosts Vietnam and Lebanon in the triangular friendly tournament.
“The senior Indian men's team will play a triangular friendly tournament in Vietnam during the October 2024 FIFA window. Apart from India and hosts Vietnam, the third team in this competition is Lebanon. Both Vietnam (116) and Lebanon (117) are ranked ahead of India (124) in the latest FIFA rankings,” the AIFF said.
The first match of the tournament will be played between Vietnam and India on October 9. The second match will be played between India and Lebanon on October 12. Meanwhile, the last match will be played between Vietnam and Lebanon on October 15.
Earlier, India's campaign in qualification for the FIFA World Cup 2026 ended in controversial fashion when Qatar won 2-1 in the World Cup qualifiers second round Group A match at the Jassim Bin Hamad Stadium in Doha on Tuesday.
However, the match had many highlights as Qatar got chances to score despite the ball going out of the field of play. India maintained the lead till the 72nd minute of the game but Qatar equalised the game after a controversial equaliser. Youssef Aymen scored after the ball went out of play. He scored another goal in the final minutes of the game to secure a 2-1 win and end India's campaign in the qualification race.
