Indian Army's first hydrogen bus will boost “Olive Green – Going Green” mission

“Olive Green-Going Green” The first hydrogen bus under the campaign has been handed over to the Indian Army. New and environmentally friendly innovative solutions have also been promoted through an agreement between the Indian Army and Indian Oil Corporation Limited (IOCL).

Hydrogen fuel cell buses have been handed over to the Indian Army. Moving forward, this agreement symbolizes a partnership that encourages new and alternative solutions between the Indian Army and IOCL. Evidence is provided through this agreement to promote new and sustainable transport solutions.

Hydrogen fuel cell technology offers a clean and efficient transportation solution, converting hydrogen gas into electricity through an electro-chemical process. The process emits only water vapour, ensuring zero emissions. This hydrogen fuel cell bus has a capacity of 37 passengers and is powered by a 30 kg onboard tank for a range of 250-300 km.

Promote green transportation solutions

Apart from this agreement, the Indian Army has also signed an agreement to set up green hydrogen based microgrid power plants on the northern borders. Along with this, a pilot project is also being started in Chushul. In which 200 kW green hydrogen based microgrid will provide 24×7 electricity to the soldiers deployed in remote areas.

This partnership has strengthened innovation and environmental responsibility, and the use of hydrogen fuel cell buses represents significant progress. This initiative promotes clean and green transportation solutions, helping the country's environmental conservation efforts. Through this agreement, the Indian Army and IOCL have taken a significant step towards clean energy solutions with the establishment of a green hydrogen-based microgrid power plant on the northern borders.

Attempts at self-reliance through energy

The National Green Hydrogen Mission (NGHM) is a very important initiative for India, which aims to promote the production, use and export of green hydrogen and its by-products. Under this mission, India is targeted to become a global hub for the production, use and export of green hydrogen and its derivatives.

This will contribute to India's goal of becoming self-reliant through clean energy and will also serve as an inspiration for the global clean energy transition. India is focusing on producing 50 lakh tonnes of green hydrogen for domestic use. There is also an emphasis on creating more than six lakh employment opportunities in this sector. Efforts are also being made to decarbonize key sectors of the economy and make India a global hub for the production, use and export of alternative fuels.
