Impact of Microsoft outage on Indian airlines: Due to the shutdown of various Microsoft services, airlines of many countries of the world including India and America have been affected. More than 147 flights between India and America have been canceled. Due to this problem, services ranging from flight booking, cancellation to check-in have been affected.
In a travel advisory posted online, IndiGo acknowledged the glitch, saying, “An ongoing issue with Microsoft Azure has impacted our systems across the network, resulting in increased wait times at our contact centres and airports. You may experience slower check-in processes and longer lines.” The airline assured passengers that its team is working diligently to restore the situation, and said, “We are all committed to resolving these issues as quickly as possible in collaboration with our digital team and Microsoft Azure.”
Passengers are requested to reach the airport early
According to the report, IndiGo, Akash and SpiceJet in India have also issued advisories of service disruption due to Microsoft technical glitch. SpiceJet said on X, “We are facing technical challenges with our service provider. Due to which online services including booking, check-in and booking operations have been disrupted. As a result, we have implemented manual check-in and boarding process service at all airports. Passengers with travel plans are requested to reach the airport earlier than usual to complete check-in at our counters. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused by this and assure you that our teams are working diligently with our service provider to resolve these issues immediately. Thank you for your patience and cooperation during this time.”
Airline services were also shut down in the US
Major airlines in the US, including Frontier, Allegiant and SunCountry, have shut down services. Frontier said it is in the process of resuming operations soon. Frontier had earlier said a “Microsoft technical glitch” had temporarily affected its operations. SunCountry said a third-party vendor had affected its booking and check-in facilities. “The Allegiant website is also down due to a Microsoft Azure issue.”
