India won its first medal at the ongoing Under-17 World Wrestling Championship 2024 in Amman, Jordan on Tuesday, August 20. Young wrestler Raunak Dahiya won a bronze medal in the 110 kg Greco-Roman category. Raunak defeated Emrullah Capcan of Turkey 6-1 in the bronze medal play-off.
This was India's first medal in this tournament. Ronak is currently ranked second in the world in his age group weight category. Earlier, Ronak lost 0-2 to silver medalist Zoltan Jako of Hungary in the semi-final match. The gold medal in this category was won by Ivan Yankovsky of Ukraine, who defeated the Kazakh 13-4 on the basis of technical superiority.
Raunak Dahiya, who trains at Delhi's famous Chhatrasal Stadium, started his championship campaign with an 8-1 win over Artur Manvelyan. Raunak then won by technical superiority over Daniel Maslako. But he was knocked out of the race for the gold medal after losing the semi-final match.
