New Delhi, July 29 (HS). India will host the Men's Asia Cup in T20 format next year, while the tournament will be played in 50-over format in Bangladesh in 2027.

According to the Invitation for Expression of Interest for Sponsorship Rights document released by the Asian Cricket Council, a total of 13 matches will be played in the tournament in which six teams – India, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Afghanistan will participate and the sixth team will be selected through a qualifying event.

Though the dates are yet to be finalised, sources have indicated that it could be held in September after the monsoon season ends in the country.

According to the International Cricket Council (ICC) Future Tours Programme (FTP) 2023-27, India have a busy schedule next year as they will play a limited-overs series against England in January-February, followed by the Champions Trophy in February-March.

After the IPL is over, the team will tour England from June to August and then head to Bangladesh to play three ODIs and as many T20Is. So, the Asia Cup is expected to be held after the Bangladesh series and before the two-match Test series against the West Indies in October. However, BCCI sources clarified that no decision has been taken about the potential venues yet. While there will be no men's Asian tournament in 2026, the Women's Asia Cup will be played in the T20 format that year, followed by the men's Under-19 and Emerging Teams Asia Cup tournaments.

Last year, the Asia Cup was played in a hybrid model, with Pakistan hosting some matches at its home ground while India played all its matches in Sri Lanka. India, under the captaincy of Rohit Sharma, won the title by defeating Sri Lanka by 10 wickets in the final at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo.
