Lucknow, 11 July (HS). On the occasion of World Population Day on 11 July, a seminar was organized by the Indian Medical Association in the IMA Bhawan. On this occasion, the elected president of IMA, Dr. Sarita Singh said that India will become the country with the largest population in the world by 2030. Currently, China ranks first in the world in terms of population and India ranks second, keeping this in view, the Government of India is running many family planning programs.
He said that due to the increasing population in India, unemployment, poverty and hunger will continue to increase in the country. It will be difficult for the coming generations to stay safe and healthy. It is estimated that about 25 children are born in India every minute.
He said that this day was celebrated for the first time on 11th July 1987, because on this day the world population crossed 5 billion, in view of this, the United Nations decided to celebrate this day to spread awareness about population growth across the world, because today every country in the world, both developing and developed, is worried about the population explosion.
IMA Secretary Dr. Sanjay Saxena said that around 225 million women across the world are at risk of unwanted pregnancies. The main reason for this is lack of awareness about the availability of safe and effective family planning methods.
