Maldives expects that, as always, India will be its biggest base in the coming years. If their expectations are fulfilled then they can get up to Rs 875 crore from India, but will this amount be enough for them?

Recently relations between Maldives and India have become tense, but now there is hope of good relations returning between them. This was also confirmed when Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu visited India recently. Now Maldives hopes that like always, India will become its biggest support next year too and it will get help of Rs 875 crore (about 1.6 billion Maldivian Rufiyaa).

In fact, Maldives receives huge amounts of aid from its foreign partners every year. In such a situation, the Maldives government estimates that India will provide it a grant assistance of Rs 875 crore in 2025. This is 72 percent of the total foreign aid it receives from friendly countries.

This was said in the budget of Maldives

According to news website 'Adhaadhoo.com', the budget was presented in the Parliament of Maldives on Thursday. This is the estimate of foreign aid in Maldives Budget 2025. Under Budget Proposal 2025, the administration led by President Mohamed Muizzu has estimated a total of 2.25 billion Maldivian Rufiyaa (MVR) in international grant assistance.

It is likely to get 72 percent foreign grant from India. It is worth MVR 1.6 billion (about ₹ 875 crore Indian rupees).

So much money can come from China!

Maldives also gets a lot of help from China. So, in 2025 it may get 502 million MVR from China. This is about 22 percent of the foreign aid it receives. Apart from this, Maldives government is also expected to get grant assistance from other friendly countries like Japan, Pakistan, Saudi Arabia and Netherlands.

According to the report, India has provided 'significant' financial assistance to Maldives this year. Last month, during President Mohammed Muizzu's visit to India, India had announced assistance worth $400 million (approximately Rs 3,360 crore).

The current President of Maldives, Mohammed Muizzu is considered very close to China. A major part of his election campaign was 'anti-India'. Therefore, due to his initial attitude, there seems to be some tension in the relations between Maldives and India.
