India's women's archery team has performed brilliantly in the ranking round of the Paris Olympics. Deepika Kumari, Ankita Bhagat and Bhajan Kaur have collectively scored 1,983 points for India. With this, the Indian team finished fourth and made it to the quarter-finals. Talking about individual scores, the best performance for India was of Ankita Bhagat, who scored a total of 666 points in 72 shots and finished 11th. Deepika Kumari and Bhajan Kaur remained out of the top-20.
Individual performance of Indian players
If we look at the individual performance of Indian players, Ankita is ranked 11th, Bhajan Kaur 22nd and Deepika Kumari 23rd. Ankita made a great comeback in the last two sets of the second half and scored 112 out of 120 points. 18-year-old Bhajan Kaur performed particularly poorly in the last moments and scored a total of 659 points. Deepika was one point behind her and completed the ranking round with 658 points.
India entered the quarter finals
Talking about the rules, the top-4 teams in the team list will get direct entry into the quarter-finals of the team event. India qualified directly for the quarter-finals by finishing fourth with 1983 points. In the quarter-finals, India will now face the winner of the France vs Netherlands match. While the teams ranked 5th to 12th in the team rankings will first have to go through the Round of 16.
Bracket of 128 athletes ready
The purpose of the ranking round was to create a group of 128 athletes in archery. Now these 128 athletes will face each other individually in a single event based on their respective rankings. To reach the final, athletes have to first go through the Round of 64, then the Round of 32 and then the pre-quarterfinals and semi-finals.
