India needs to be cautious on another front. Since, the US has increased tariffs on Chinese goods such as electric vehicles (EVs), solar batteries, advanced batteries, aluminum and medical devices to protect its domestic industries. Then it remains to be seen that India does not become a dumping site for China. This incident has caused a double blow to China which has created a stir in the global markets. Because, apart from America, the European Union (EU) has also drastically reduced the number of electric vehicles (EVs) imported from China.
With the US increasing tariffs on electric vehicles (EVs), solar batteries, advanced batteries, aluminum and medical devices and many other new technology goods manufactured in China, China can now dump these goods into other markets, including India. Then India will also have to keep an eye on the fact that it does not become a dumping ground for China. So that the security of Indian industries is also maintained.
It is noteworthy that, to counter China's unfair trade practices, US President Joe Biden had directed his Trade Representative to increase tariffs on Chinese imports worth $18 billion under Section 301 of the Trade Act of 1974. Ensuring the safety of American workers and businesses. America rarely takes any decision on national security, but America has justified its decision.
It is also important to note here that while India is attracting investments in the EV segment to increase the consumption of electric vehicles, it remains to be seen how India evaluates the US decision, which has sparked debate in the international market.
