India makes a great start in the World Deaf Shooting Championship, Anuya Prasad wins gold | News India

The 16-member Indian deaf shooting team got off to a stellar start at the 2nd World Deaf Shooting Championship 2024 in Hannover, Germany, winning one gold, two silver and one bronze medal on the first day of competition on Saturday. Anuya Prasad won the gold medal in the women's 10m air pistol, while India achieved a double podium finish in the men's 10m air pistol with Abhinav Deswal winning silver and Shubham Vashisht winning bronze, while the pair of Chetan Sakpal won silver in the team event.

India's Anuya Prasad won the gold medal in women's air pistol on the first day of the World Deaf Championships in Germany on Sunday. Anuya shot 10.3 in her final shot to beat Ukraine's Sofya Olenich by 0.1 points to win the gold.

The championship will run till September 7, 2024 and Indian shooters will compete in air rifle and air pistol events. The team includes top shooters such as Dhanush Srikanth as well as interpreters and coaches Preeti Sharma (pistol) and Sanjeev Rajput (rifle).

Earlier on Friday, NRAI and ITC Maurya in New Delhi hosted a star-studded evening to felicitate the Indian Olympic shooting contingent. The three Olympic winners Manu Bhaker, Sarabjot Singh and Swapnil Kusale and other participants were felicitated with awards and mementos. The evening concluded with an Olympic and shooting themed cake cutting ceremony.
