Maharashtra Election Updates: Cracks are visible in the Congress alliance after the announcement of assembly election dates in Maharashtra. A dispute has arisen between Congress and Uddhav Thackeray's party Shiv Sena UBT on the issue of seat sharing. On the other hand, Samajwadi Party President Abu Azmi has also expressed his displeasure with Congress for not being invited to the MVA meeting.
SP President Akhilesh Yadav himself has entered the field for campaigning from today. Amid the tussle over seats in the alliance, Akhilesh has held rallies in Malegaon and Dhule without the support of Congress. This attitude of SP shows that it is unhappy with Congress.
Assembly elections were held in Madhya Pradesh a few months before the Lok Sabha elections. At that time, the debate between Congress and SP in the Indian alliance continued till the last moment and when Congress questioned the supremacy of SP, a controversy arose. SP had asked for 12 seats in this election.
SP leaders were hopeful that they could get eight to ten seats in the Congress alliance, but the matter heated up due to Congress's refusal. Later SP alone fielded its candidates. SP could not even open its account in Madhya Pradesh. But Congress is responsible for spoiling the game.
Why talk about Madhya Pradesh in Maharashtra?
Now a similar situation is being seen in Maharashtra elections. SP is staking claim on a dozen seats. SP also demanded an alliance in Haryana elections, but the party could not reach an agreement there. Aware of the defeat in Haryana, SP is adopting the Madhya Pradesh model and is working on a strategy to speed up election preparations along with talks on seat sharing. Indications are clear that SP does not want to leave the elections like Haryana if an alliance is not formed.
SP's activism is a clear message to Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT) and NCP (Sharad Pawar) that whether there is an alliance or not, the party will enter the fray. While counting the names of the seats, Maharashtra SP President Abu Azmi said that we are fully prepared and if we do not get seats in the alliance, then we are ready to contest the elections alone after discussing with Akhilesh Yadav. If SP contests elections alone and Muslim votes get divided then MVA will be responsible.
