Mpox Vaccine in India: Monkeypox is spreading in many countries of the world. Of course, no case of monkeypox has been reported in India so far, but in view of the increasing cases in the world, the central government has ordered airports, ports and border officials to remain alert on August 19.
Meanwhile, on August 20, the Serum Institute of India (SII), headed by Adar Poonawalla, has announced that an indigenous Mpox vaccine is close to being developed and good news is expected within the next year
Information given by Adar Poonawala
- Speaking to Business Standard, Adar Poonawalla, CEO, Serum Institute of India, said, “We are currently working on developing an anti-mpox vaccine, which will help save millions of lives.”
- He further said that hopefully with this progress we will get some more updates and positive news within a year. It is worth mentioning here that the new monkeypox virus is different from the earlier monkeypox disease.
Beware of Central Monkeypox
- Recently, the Union Health Ministry held a meeting with experts on the new monkeypox virus. According to sources involved in the meeting, monkeypox has nothing to do with Covid-19.
- Nodal officers have been appointed in hospitals. Testing facilities are available at 32 ICMR centres. The Health Ministry has identified three centrally managed hospitals – Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital, Safdarjung and Lady Hardinge – as nodal centres for isolation, management and treatment of any MPox patient in the national capital.
