India-Palestine: The Government of India has released the first installment for the year 2024-25 to help Palestinian refugees. India has released the first installment of US $ 2.5 million to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestinian Refugees (UNRWA). India will give US $ 5 million to Palestine this year amid the ongoing protests in Gaza.

Help was sent last year

The Indian government sent financial assistance of US$35 million to Palestine for the year 2023-24, which was used for health care, relief and social services for refugees. At the recent UNRWA conference held in New York, India announced to provide humanitarian assistance to Palestine in 2024-25. The funds given for financial assistance are not handed over directly to Palestine but to the United Nations Relief and Works Agency.

Meanwhile, Gaza's Health Ministry said on Monday (July 15) that at least 38,664 people have been killed in the war between Israel and Gaza.

A notification issued by the Indian government said, “India has always played an active role in seeking support for the Palestinian cause in multilateral forums. As a member of the Security Council, India continues to lend its support, through dialogue, to achieve peace with Israel.” Prime Minister Narendra Modi made a historic visit to Palestine on 10 February 2018, the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Palestine since October 2015.

India's Charge d'Affaires and Deputy Permanent Representative R. Ravindra said that UNRWA's role in mitigating hardships remains crucial. He said India has been a reliable partner for the Palestinian people. He also said that India is providing scholarships to 50 Palestinian students for pursuing undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral studies in various educational institutions in India. He said India is also providing medicines to UNRWA on its specific request.
