India: Four students from the same school, same class contest elections from different parties

The opposing party is not always a rival in elections, there are many leaders who are friends despite being in the opposing party. A vivid example of this has been seen in the Lok Sabha elections 2024. In this election, four students of the same class of Doon School are in the fray. These four leaders are considered veteran leaders of their respective parties. Doon School's 1992 bench BJP leaders Jitin Prasad and Raghav Lakhanpal are contesting from Uttar Pradesh. Congress's Nakulnath Chhindwara and BJD's Kalikesh Singh Dev are candidates for Odisha Assembly elections from Bolangir. However, political circumstances have brought both of them into state politics. It is noteworthy that there is a contest going on between BJP and BJD in Odisha. Before the elections, there was also discussion that Nakul Nath was leaving Congress and joining BJP. However, nothing happened and he is contesting from Chhindwara on Congress ticket.

Lakhanpal, BJP candidate from Saharanpur seat of UP, said that we sometimes talk on WhatsApp group. However, talking about politics is not allowed there. Well, someone just says that congratulations for contesting the elections. After this the matter ended.

These leaders, who study in the same class, rarely meet each other. They met at the school in 2017 to mark the school's 25th anniversary. Singh Dev said that politics is a different thing but we are still good friends. Lakhanpal said that when he went to school during the reunion, he participated in a debate. Priyanka Gandhi Vadra was the judge in that debate. Then he said that BJP people know how to speak well. I got the best speaker award in this debate. He said that at least two MPs hail from Doon School.
