With the help of two goals each from captain Harmanpreet Singh and Sukhjit Singh, India defeated world champion Germany 5-3 in the second hockey test, but lost the two-match series 1-3 in the shootout. International hockey has returned to Major Dhyanchand Stadium after 11 years.
In the second match, Eliane Majkur scored two goals for Germany in the seventh and 57th minutes and Heinrich Martjens scored one goal in the 60th minute. In the second half, Sukhjeet scored goals for India in the 34th and 48th minutes. Captain Harmanpreet scored two goals in the 42nd and 43rd minutes and Abhishek ensured India's victory by scoring two goals in the 45th minute. India lost 1-3 in the shootout. Harmanpreet, Abhishek, Mohammad Rahil could not score goals in the shootout. Aditya Arjun Lalge scored the first goal for India. Since both the teams won one match each, a penalty shootout was resorted to to decide the winning team.
